Terry Lynn Chancellor, Artist
Terry Chancellor - Painter and Mixed-Media Artist
Terry grew up in a small rural community with farms, fields, and blue mountains to inspire her. Following high school, she moved to Richmond, VA to pursue her BFA in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. After many years in commercial interior design, and while raising three children, she returned to her passion for art. She was on the advisory board to establish the Center for Creative Arts at Shady Grove (2004) and began teaching classes and summer camps. She has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Center, created workshops for the hearing impaired, and facilitated retreats and workshops on creativity and spiritual renewal. In addition, Terry worked as the Creative Arts Specialist at Cedarfield of Pinnacle Living for three years, teaching classes and managing their art studio, art programs, and two galleries. She left in 2020 to pursue working as an artist full-time, while continuing to lead art classes and camps, sharing her love of art with all ages!
Terry's love for nature, her rural childhood, and faith journey are often reflected in her works through pen and ink, oils, acrylics, and mixed-media. In recent years, painting en plein air has become a passion! She has created commissioned works of homeplace sketches, pet portraits, and landscapes. Many of Terry's works have been used as fundraisers for Feed More, Easter Seals, and Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond. One of her mixed-media pieces hung on permanent display at Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond until its closure and now hangs at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Richmond area in solo and group shows, as well as art festivals.
Terry continues to explore and study art, passing along her knowledge through her own teaching. Her latest passion for plein air painting took her to Colorado in 2023 for the Plein Air Convention and Expo to learn from some of the world's masters. She is passionate about capturing the beauty in nature, especially areas that may soon no longer exist.
Terry's current class offerings, workshops, and exhibits can be found under Events.
“I believe everyone has the ability to create, we just need to find our personal niche. We were each born to be co-creators with the Divine, each given unique perspectives and abilities. Through exploration and being brave enough to push past mistakes and failures, we find the joy that lights our soul”
