Terry Chancellor - Painter and Mixed-Media Artist

Terry holds a BFA in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University.  After many years in commercial design and raising three children, she returned to her passion for art.  She is an accomplished artist, instructor, and designer who sketches and paints landscapes, homes, portraits, and a variety of subjects on commission and independently.  Her works reflect a bit of her interior design background but primarily her love of nature and her faith journey; she is often drawn to painting en plein air!  She enjoys sharing her love of art with all ages from 5 to 105, teaching oil and acrylic painting, mixed-media art, and art fundamentals.

Many of Terry's works have been used as fundraisers for Central Virginia Food Bank (Feed More), Easter Seals, and Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond.  One of her mixed-media pieces hung on permanent display at Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond until its closure (it now hangs at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond).  Her work has been exhibited throughout the Richmond area.

In 2020, Terry returned to working full-time as an artist, and occasionally teaching, after serving as the Creative Arts Specialist at Cedarfield of Pinnacle Living for three years.  At Cedarfield, she managed their art studio, art programs, and galleries, in addition to teaching a variety of classes.  Terry has also taught art classes at Westminster Canterbury of Richmond, and painting and crafts at Darby House Senior Apartments.

Currently, Terry has been teaching classes and workshops for children and adults at The Center for Creative Arts @ Shady Grove UMC, Short Pump, a program she has passionately served in many capacities since its conception in 2004.  You can find a list of current offerings under the Events heading.

“I believe everyone has the ability to create, we just need to find our personal niche.  We were each born to be co-creators with the Divine, each given unique perspectives and abilities.  Through exploration and being brave enough to push past mistakes and failures, we find the joy that lights our soul”
